About This Spot

Stepping into The Cowshed feels like entering a cozy retreat tucked away from the bustle of everyday life. Nestled in the quiet embrace of No Man's Lane, this café invites you to slow down and savor a moment of calm. The warm glow from the log fire and the gentle murmur of friendly conversations create a soothing atmosphere that makes it easy to settle in, whether you're curling up with a book or catching up with friends over a cup of coffee.

The pace here is unhurried, thoughtful — a place where mornings unfold naturally and afternoons stretch just long enough to enjoy the sunshine on the decking or the leafy views from the conservatory. It’s easy to feel at home, wrapped in the attentive yet unobtrusive service that makes every visit feel personalized.

The menu is an extension of this welcoming mood, crafted to satisfy both comfort and curiosity. Whether you’re drawn to a hearty English breakfast enlivened with a touch of halloumi or looking to explore lighter, seasonal fare like quiches and fresh salads, the offerings blend familiar warmth with subtle surprises. For those who seek plant-based options, the vegan breakfast manages to feel indulgent rather than a compromise. And no visit would feel quite complete without the subtle sweetness of a homemade cake paired with a carefully brewed cappuccino or a soothing herbal tea.

What sets The Cowshed apart is its ability to balance popularity with intimacy. While it can draw a steady flow of visitors — testament to its well-earned reputation — the thoughtful layout, including the cozy conservatory and inviting outdoor spaces, helps maintain a sense of peace. The friendly staff add a human touch to every interaction, guiding you through the menu with quiet enthusiasm and ensuring your experience is as comfortable as it is satisfying.

For locals and visitors alike, The Cowshed offers more than just a place to eat or grab a drink. It’s a place to pause, reconnect with simple pleasures, and feel a genuine connection to the rhythms of the community around Dale Abbey.

This place is amazing, really nice food and lovely service from the friendly staff. We sat out on the decking and had a bite to eat in the sunshine one afternoon. The food is really good and the coffee (and biscuit) was great. Highly recommend a visit here, we will certainly be regularly visiting. The carpark is quite small but there is extra parking just around the corner.

Lovely cozy cafe with a warm atmosphere and log fire. Delicious English breakfasts in a variety of sizes. Rather a long queue to order, but the food was made and delivered quickly. Very popular cafe, and for good reason.

What a fab place for lunch. Obviously, they can be very busy. Fortunately we went for a late lunch around 1:30-1:45 and got seated in the conservatory which had a nice view out into the garden and included a big heater to keep the place warm. The staff were lovely and very helpful giving clear guidance on how to order and what's on the menu. The decaf tea was well presented, a good quantity and hot. The quiche meals were of very generous portions, with a good measure of mixed salad. There was a wide selection of cakes. The cornflake tart caught my eye and when it came it was a generous portion. I can recommend it! We moved into the main seating area after a short time as it was quite cool in the conservatory for us. The big heater couldn’t quite cope with the outside sliding doors opening for customers coming and going. The main seating area was a better area to sit, and was a good bit warmer. It was good to see the staff set to cleaning the tables and floors after customers had left. There are a couple of toilets on the ground floor, both clean and tidy with good facilities. The couple of things that would have made our experience even better was. 1. Fix the sliding outside door and stop it being left open or sliding open. On a cold day it is noticeable. 2. Both of our quiche meals were only just warm. They would have been much nicer a lot hotter. Overall, the staff were excellent, the food very good and the place was clean and tidy. Prices were a little more then we would have paid else where. There appears to be two car parks. We parked in the one off the main road and ended walking along it just around the corner to find the closer carpark and the entrance. We will definitely go again, perhaps when the weather improves or ask for a seat inside the main café. 30.7.25 Lovely lunch visit and, yes, the cornflake tart is still fabulous. Staff friendly and helpful.

This was our first visit to The Cowshed, and we were thoroughly impressed. We came across it on Google Maps, checked out their social media, and knew we had to give it a try. The staff were welcoming and friendly, handing us menus as we arrived. We chose to sit outside, which was lovely. Ordering is done inside, and we were served our food and drinks within ten minutes—quick and efficient service. We both went for The Farmer’s Breakfast at £14 each. While it’s a little more than we’d typically pay for something similar, it was absolutely worth every penny—generous portions, beautifully cooked, and full of flavour. A solid 10/10 with no faults to speak of. Parking might be a challenge at busy times—the on-site car park was full, so we parked on the road just around the corner. It’s clearly a popular spot, and the short two-minute walk wasn’t an issue for us. There’s plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors, with parasols for shade, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back to try more from the menu—and next time, we’ll make sure to leave room for one of their homemade cakes!

It was a very nice place to visit , dog friendly. Food as you can see by pictures, food was a real treat, service very good. I have to add the cakes to die for. Great outdoor seating area plus nice cosy inside restaurant area. Would recommend a visit, pricing reasonable. Cowshed as you can see, we very much enjoyed our visit with the family. Keep up the good work thanks M&J

Went for lunch. The cafe was busy but managed to get a table for 3 of us. Lovely views infront of the glass floor to ceiling windows of the surrounding area. Prices are quite high, however this outweighed by the quality and selection of the food. I had quiche of the day which came with a plate full off salad and pasta with a door wedge size of quiche. Well worth the money! Good selection of drinks available with a promot service. The selection of cakes are definitely tempting as well. Will definitely pay another visit l.
